Goodbye Patty

So I haven’t posted anything in forever because I really don’t have the time or inkling. But with the recent loss of noted sex haver Patrick Marleau, I’d like to share my thoughts/feelings.

I’ve gone over many times elsewhere that I really only got super into hockey in 2011. So while I don’t have the longevity of being a fan as others, Patty is still Mr. Shark to me. Just because he isn’t my favorite doesn’t mean it doesn’t make me very sad he’s gone.

I had a feeling it was coming too. My roommate asked me last week what I thought was going to happen, and it really is what went down. Jumbo stayed. Patty left.

He’s always gotten so much shit when he struggled. More so than other guys on the team. But when he was great, it was just another day for him. His clutch-ness in playoffs is over looked by those who only focus on Cup wins. Like cmon people, Patty isn’t the whole team. He shows up when it counts. He’s still hella fast. He still is very skilled. He probably does have another 3 years in him. As does Jumbo (who I hope keeps getting signed by Doug and never leaves us because Jumbo for lyfe).

Now, I would rather have it this way, Jumbo instead of Patty, but it doesn’t make it hurt any less. Luckily I haven’t had anyone tell me I’m Not A Real Fan for this opinion, and hopefully I won’t after this.

I wish Patty all the luck as he goes to Toronto. He’ll need it. The media there (and fans to an extent) are pretty shitty to players that don’t live up to their ridiculous unreasonable standards. I feel I’m going to get very mad on line for him in the upcoming season. But that’s ok. That’s what being a fan is all about. After 33 ¬†years of seeing players I love leave the teams I love, I’m used to it.

I don’t know if any of this makes any sense or whatever, but 140 characters on twitter wasn’t enough to say it all.
